What is "Hands-On-Conservation"? A county-wide educational program sponsored by the Conservation Partnership that provides opportunities for youth to learn about natural resources conservation through active participation in stewardship and agriculture enhancement activities on public and private property.

Funding for program development and implementation is being provided through key project partnerships with the Clean Water Division of the Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (ACFC&WCD), CALFED, and other sources.

The Conservation Partnership's Hands-On-Conservation education program works with local east and west Alameda county high school students to increase their knowledge of natural resources, conservation and their local watersheds through contact with local conservation agencies and landowners/managers. Students are provided the opportunity to actively participate in habitat restoration and other conservation projects with an education and career-development focus. Students are able to earn hours for required high school community service. The program also provides opportunities for environmental stewardship through youth groups.

Students can complete community service hours through NRCS's Earth Team Volunteer program. Program volunteers, mentors and landowners can also be enrolled in this program. NRCS's EarthTeam provides students insurance protections as well as an introduction to the value of volunteering.

If you would like more information on this program please contact Leslie Koenig at 925-371-0154 ext 115.
